Why your voice is important
The management of user rights in content management systems (CMS) is a central component for efficient and secure work. In EGOCMS, we rely on clear, logical rights inheritance - so that editors have exactly the freedom they need for their daily work without jeopardising the security or structure of your website.
EGOCMS currently inherits all the rights of the parent page when a new subpage is created - with one important exception: the "Edit" right of the subpage is based on the "Create page" right of the parent page. This allows normal editors not only to create subpages, but also to edit them - even if the parent page can only be edited by chief editors.
Now the question arises: Should this principle also be applied to the "Delete" right? That would mean Normal editors would not only be able to edit newly created subpages, but also delete them - provided they have the right to create subpages.
Your experience is needed! We only want to introduce this function as a new standard if it actually improves your workflow. That's why we're asking for your opinion in a short survey.
Scenario | Current behaviour |
---|---|
Edit parent page | Only chief editors |
Create subpage | Normal editors (with "Create page" right) |
Edit subpage | Normal editors (inherits "Create page" right) |
Delete subpage | Current: Inherits "Delete" right of the parent page (often only chief editors) |
Planned change: In future, the "Delete" right of the subpage will also inherit the "Create page" right of the parent page.
→ Consequence: Normal editors could also delete subpages that they have created themselves.
Why this change? Advantages and disadvantages at a glance
Advantages:
- More autonomy for editors: Anyone who creates a subpage can also remove it again - without having to consult senior editors.
- Increased efficiency: Faster corrections and fewer administrative hurdles in day-to-day editing.
- Consistency: Rights inheritance becomes more standardised and intuitive.
Possible concerns:
- Accidental deletion: Could subpages be deleted unintentionally if the right is too broad?
- Security risk? Is control by chief editors over deletion processes important for your processes?
